The main area of focus of The Farm of Minnesota is our fresh fruits and vegetables. Throughout the CSA season, we look to harvest anywhere from 40 to 50 or more different varieties of crops. These range from the recognizable staples you would expect to find at your local grocery store, to some more ecclectic items and heirloom varieties that you may be less familiar with. Over the years we've been farming, we've discovered some incredible fruit and vegetable varieties that most people rarely get to learn about; things like "Moon and Stars" watermelons, which have a delicious sweet orange flesh; or Cippolini onions, which are prominent in Italian cooking and are similar in character to an ordinary white onion, but Cippolinis are much more difficult to find fresh in the US. Part of the rich experience of being a CSA member is discovering new and less familiar fruits and vegetables that you may never otherwise get the chance to try.
The Farm of Minnesota is in the process of transitioning our land and produce to be certified organic. That means that we grow using organic practices - something we've been doing for a long time - but have not yet been fully certified, which is a multi-year series of proposals, reviews, and processes. Because The Farm of Minnesota is currently labeled as "transitional", our members receive the benefits of organicly-grown vegetables, without the traditional premium you would expect to pay for the label "organic".
To assist our members as they receive their weekly boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables, we have listed out our crops in two ways - by
Name, and by
