The Story of The Farm of Minnesota

 The Farm sign - CSA farm in Hutchinson MN The story of The Farm begins with my maternal grandfather, who began farming this land outside of Hutchinson, Minnesota in 1945, and spent the next 40 years of his life here.  He raised the quality animals and crops typically produced post-WWII, both for the family and to bring to town.  This was at a time when locally grown crops of fruits and vegetables were commonly sold in the community and local markets, and the word organic was years away from the mainstream buzz that it has today.  In the late 1960’s, I was blessed to spend a summer here with my grandfather, working this soil, and it is here that I fell in love with farming.
After finishing school in California, I was led to develop an avocado ranch.  My grandfather retired from active farming in the early 1980’s, and I was involved with the orchard in California, so a cousin produced conventional grains with this land.  In 2000, I was again called home to The Farm.  We spent the next few years in small-scale trials and tests, adjusting to farming in the Midwest.  We realized quickly that our passion was to provide healthy and nutritious food directly to as many people as possible.  We knew that we should return this land to the state that my grandfather’s care had it on.  We envision multiple crops grown with organic practices, available to the local community, and to achieve this goal we are combining today’s knowledge with yesterday’s passion.  Looking over The Farm - CSA shares with a view
 Rows of vegetables grown with organic practices In 2009 we successfully launched our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.  In addition, we offer our produce at our roadside stand, as well as bring our crops to market in and around the greater Twin Cities area.  Our desire to provide only the most nutritious food has guided us to transition The Farm into the organic certification process.  We were already growing with organic practices, and we are now in the middle of the multi-year process of getting fully certified organic.  We take a lot of pride in the fruits and vegetables we grow.  Since we put this food on our table, you can have it on yours, ‘cause “…if it’s not good enough for us to eat, we won’t make it available for you.”  Come and enjoy The Farm with us.
